  • Ms. Louise Arbour, Secretary-General of the Intergovernmental Conference to Adopt a Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration
  • Mr. Hugo Beteta, Director of the ECLAC Subregional Headquarters in Mexico, representing all UN Regional Economic Commissions
  • H.E. Mr. William Lacy Swing, Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM)
  • H.E. Mr. Götz Schmidt-Bremme, Ambassador for the 2017-2018 GFMD Co-Chairmanship, and H.E. Mr. El Habib Nadir, Secretary General, Ministry Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in charge of Moroccans Living Abroad and Migration Affairs, Co-chairs Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD)

Objectives:

  • Take stock of phase I through representatives of relevant global, regional and sub-regional platforms
  • Share highlights and recommendations of the different consultations and processes in a concise manner,

Format:

  • Panel moderated by one of the co-facilitators
  • The format is “Davos-style” with each speaker making a 5-minute introduction followed by discussion in the panel and with the participants
  • No power point presentations or formal speeches will be prepared
  • The idea is to foster an open debate and lively interaction.
  • Chairs of RCPs (always a Member State) should be given extra time for interventions from the floor on behalf of the respective regional process or mechanism, as well as preferential speaking order

  • Private sector: Mr. Karl Cox, GFMD Business Mechanism
  • Trade Unions: Ms. Chidi King, Director of Development of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC)
  • Parliaments: Ms. Gabriela Cuevas Barrón, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)
  • National Human Rights Institutions: Mr. Luis Raúl González Pérez, President of the National Human Rights Commission of Mexico on behalf of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI)
