Stocktaking phase

The stocktaking phase will assess the inputs received during the consultation phase. 

A preparatory meeting co-chaired by the co-facilitators will be held in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico from 4 to 6 December 2017 to take stock of the inputs received during the consultation phase.

The Secretary-General will also present a report to provide Member States with recommendations before the beginning of the intergovernmental negotiations beginning of February 2018

  • Chairs of RCPs (always a Member State) will be given extra time for interventions from the floor on behalf of the respective regional process or mechanism, as well as preferential speaking order

  • Summary panel based on a reading of what the GCM may look like, by taking into account the discussions throughout the three-day meeting

  • Followed by an interactive debate that may be used by delegations to again communicate key messages or to address any other business
  •  Co-facilitators will moderate the session and Secretary- General will provide an outlook on the SG report
  • The independent expert, with extensive expertise in the area of migration, will provide an overarching perspective on the discussions that took place in the previous three days
  • The PGA will join the panel with representatives of the host country to commence the closing ceremony immediately after the conclusion.
